Founded in 1920, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Shandong University is one of the earliest pharmacy schools in China. It has three departments: Department of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Department of Clinical Pharmacy, which comprise the whole process of drug discovery, drug manufacture and drug use. The school has several national and provincial-level labs and research centers, such as the National Glycoengineering Research Center, Comprehensive National Platform for Drug Research and Development and Key Laboratory of Drug Design and Innovative Drug Research, Shandong Province, etc.
The school has one postdoctoral program in pharmacy, which offers 8-10 postdoctoral positions each year. The school is authorized to have the Ph.D degree programs for primary disciplines in pharmacy, and programs which cover all the secondary disciplines (including Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Microbiological and Biochemical Pharmacy, Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy). Each year, the school enrolls 150 undergraduates, 100 master’ s candidates and 25 doctoral candidates.
Presently, the school has 97 staff members, which include 28 full professors, 21 associate professors and 20 doctoral advisors. The school also employs 2 professors of the national “One Thousand Talents Program”, 1 professor and 1 guest professor of the “Yangtze Scholar Program”, 3 Mount Tai Scholars, 2 oversea honorary professors and 10 guest professors from home and abroad.
The school provides over 9000 square meters of teaching and research space. Meanwhile there is a Research Institute of Natural Products Chemistry that covers a space of 7000 square meters affiliated to this school. The school has acquired advanced research instruments, including Bruker AVANCE 600 FT-NMR Spectrometer (using CryoProbe), GC/MS Spectrometer, Agilent 1260 HPLC, API 4000 MS/MS Spectrometer, Nicolet 6700/NXRFT IR and Vaian CARY Fluorescence Spectrophotometer.
